With a month of fashion Spring/Summer 2021 shows in the midst of the new “normal” wrapped up, we’ve decided to take a look at some of the beauty trends that emerged this season. We were of course curious to see what kinds of beauty looks this year would bring. Many of us are navigating wearing makeup with our masks, forgoing makeup altogether, or wearing makeup specifically for Zoom meetings and virtual calls. So, how have designers contrasted last season’s Euphoria-Esque makeup looks? Here are all the beauty trends for 2020 we spotted this season during fashion month.

Mask-Friendly Beauty Trends for 2020

Something we’ve all been thinking about and have considered here again and again. With our faces almost halfway covered how can we wear out makeup in a way that stands out and lasts? Well, designers had a few ideas.

At Dior, the look was heavy eyeliner around the entire eye, fresh, luminous skin, and a glossy natural lip. In fact, heavy eye makeup looks were quite the trend. We spotted similar looks at Giambattista Valli, where a heavier liner with a bit of a wing offset the bleached brows and a similarly intense smokey eye stole the show at Chanel.

Get the Dior look with a matte black liner or Chanel’s smokey eye with a cool-toned palette

Mask-friendly beauty can also be natural and subtle. Models as Jason Wu wore freckles and a healthy glow that stayed put underneath their masks. At Salvatore Ferragamo, models sported no-makeup makeup and a pop of color on the eye, another option to consider if a bold black liner isn’t your thing.

Statement Beauty Looks

Between fresh faces, bold eye looks, and hints of color, there were still plenty of statement worthy looks. Christopher John Rogers’s presentation featured fresh faces, bold eyes, and lips and big, architectural hair reminiscent of hair shows.

At Tom Ford, the look was heavy on the eye and lip as neon pink lip and bold shadows completed the looks. Grab the brand’s vibrant eyeshadow quads and matte lipstick in Plush Lush to achieve this vibrant look.

Bold lip colors took the stage at several other shows. Rodarte paired flower crowns and spidery lashes with dark red lips. To achieve this look grab Opulent Red from NARS, an oxblood maroon shade.

At Versace, the underwater inspired collection called for wet-look hair and a bold red lip to pair with a glowing complexion. Lastly, at Balmain, a powdery, bold red complemented the neon looks from the collection perfectly.
